Il tartan è una pezza di tessuto (storicamente realizzato in lana) composto da strisce di colori vivaci, disposte secondo schemi definiti denominati “sett”. Questi si intersecano l’uno con l’altro a formare degli scacchi colorati. Gli storici ritengono che i Celti abbiano tessuto ampi tagli di stoffa chiamati plaid (tartan) per migliaia di anni. Nelle Highlands il tartan era filato, tinto e tessuto localmente, e la stoffa era usata per produrre kilt e per indumenti di uso quotidiano. Non è facile individuare esattamente l’ origine dei clan tartan scozzesi, cioè dei tartan legati a un particolare clan. Abili tessitori producevano tessuti in tartan per la gente del posto, quindi c’erano tartan specifici riconoscibili per alcune zone, distretti e forse clan.

Tartan is a piece of fabric (historically made of wool) made up of strips of bright colors, arranged according to patterns called “sett”. These intersect with each other to form colored chess pieces. Historians believe that the Celts have been weaving large cuts of fabric called plaids (tartans) for thousands of years. In the Highlands, tartan was spun, dyed and woven locally, and the cloth was used to make kilts and everyday garments. It is not easy to identify exactly the origin of the Scottish tartan clans, that is, of the tartans linked to a particular clan. Skilled weavers produced tartan fabrics for the locals, so there were specific tartans recognizable for certain areas, districts and perhaps clans.

Per la mia borsa dalla forma trapezoidale, ho usato un tessuto il cui colore dominante è il verde, esaltato dal rosso e dal giallo chiaro. Per questo ho scelto di usare per la pattina due tessuti unica tinta verde e rosso, e per evidenziare la linea curva un bordo anch’esso rosso. La chiusura a girello in acciaio garantisce stabilità. Il manico papoca in resina simil osso, con le sue volute conferisce morbidezza che contrasta con le righe e i quadri del tartan. Si può portare a mano o in spalla grazie alle catena coordinata con il manico papoca. La base della borsa ha quattro piedini, e all’interno ci sono due tasche. Nel ciodolo “la principessa bambina ” c’è una perla di agata verde e una in corniola.

For my trapezoidal-shaped bag, I used a fabric whose dominant color is green, enhanced by red and light yellow. For this reason I have chosen to use two single colored green and red fabrics for the flap, and to highlight the curved line an edge which is also red. The steel twist lock ensures stability. The papoca handle in bone-like resin, with its volutes, gives softness that contrasts with the tartan stripes and squares. It can be carried by hand or on the shoulder thanks to the chain coordinated with the papoca handle. The base of the bag has four feet, and there are two pockets inside. In the “child princess” pendant there is a green agate pearl and a corniola one.
